Many people are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose. Some may think it is too large or small while others have more specific worries about the tip, lumps on the bridge or the angle of their nose.

The rhinoplasty procedure can help in all these instances as all perceived imperfections can be surgically enhanced or removed. The nose doesn’t stop growing until around the age of sixteen, so the procedure is not recommended before this age.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

The Rhinoplasty procedure is carried out in either an “open” or “closed” way. This depends on the patient in question and the recommendations of the surgeon and his team. The skin of the nose remains in place in both procedures.  However, the frame, including the cartilage and bone, is manipulated to reshape and enhance the profile.

More details on the procedures can be found here.

After the procedure, the recovery period is usually quite quick so should not result in prolonged discomfort. The nose may feel stiff and a little sore, there will be swelling and bruising. This can last up to 2-3 weeks, with the additional residual swelling present for up to 9 months.

Breathing difficulties are a common side effect for the first week. They usually clear up, however, patients may be advised to wear a splint.
