Facial surgery / Face lift
Deciding that you want to maintain the youthfulness and enhance the features of your face is a common desire for many. The visible signs of ageing such as lines, wrinkles and loose skin can be reversed with face lift surgery and similar surgical procedures.
Face lift surgery is one of the most commonly requested plastic surgery procedures and Mr Irfan Khan is a consultant plastic surgeon who has performed many of these procedures, with many satisfied patients. Face lift surgery involves reducing or removing skin which has lost its elasticity over time. It helps to smooth the skin, remove lines and wrinkles and rejuvenate the whole appearance.
Face Lift Procedure
The face life procedure can be carried out in one of three ways. You can discuss the best option for your circumstances with Mr Khan and his team, and below are some examples of these:
- Traditional face lift surgery
-
Minimal Access Cranial Suspension (MACS)
-
R-Facelift
Types of Facial Surgery
Traditional Face Lift Surgery
Traditional Face Lift Surgery involves a surgical incision made along the hairline, past the front of the ears and back into the hairline behind the ears. The positioning of the incision ensures scarring is hidden well and soon disappears. The skin is then gently and carefully separated from the face. The surgeon can then remove excess fat and tighten the facial muscles. The skin is then lifted back into place and stitched along the original incision, with excess skin removed.
After surgery the face is wrapped in a bandage to avoid any risk of infection and also to support the face as the skin heals. Within a day this bandage is usually removed, and most patients can return home from hospital. Patients will also have drains stitched into place to allow excess blood and fluid to drain from behind the ear, but these are usually removed within a few days.
Minimal Access Cranial Suspension (MACS)
MACS involves smaller incisions than traditional face lift surgery. Through the use of small surgical incisions excess fat and muscle tightening can be carried out. It is less invasive than traditional face lift surgery and worth considering if it’s an option, dependent on individual circumstances.
R-Facelift
Mr Khan also offers a modified MACS procedure known as the R-Facelift, which may be appropriate for you and will be discussed at your consultation appointment.
